Crossing the Renjola pass (5360m) will take you to the Bhotekoshi valley that lies in the trade route between Nepal and Tibet. You will get a better panoramic view of the mountains, including Mt. Everest, Mt. Lhotse, Mt. Makalau, Mt. Cho Oyu and 27 others, from the Renjola pass and as you cross the pass you will come to the Thame village, which is the home of the Sherpas.

Autum and spring are the best seasons to trek to GokyoThame, especially from September to December and February to May, and the trekking expedition is suitable for trekkers who want to cross high passes without any difficult climbing. The lush green forests, the glistening lakes and the culture of the Sherpas alongside the trekking path add more charm to the trip. One needs to be physically fit to complete the journey and enjoy the trip to the fullest and the trip is designed to avoid high altitude sickness. The trekkers can explore the jungle and view various endangered species.

Day by Day

YOUR ADVENTURE DIARY

  • Day 1

    Your journey begins with a scenic drive from Kathmandu to Manthali, taking approximately 3 to 4 hours. Along the way, you'll travel along the Roshi Khola and Sunkoshi River, cross the Sunkoshi and follow the Tamakoshi River to reach Manthali Airport. After a short 18-minute flight to Lukla, the gateway to the Khumbu region, you'll start your trek to Monjo, This trek features breathtaking views of the Khumbu region and passes by old monasteries and the Dudhakoshi River. You'll spend the night in Monjo.

  • Day 2

    After spending a night near the riverside in Monjo, we will continue our trek for 3 to 4 hours to reach Namche (3440m). Along the way, we will follow the Dudh Koshi River and check in at the Jorsalle check post of the Sagarmatha National Park. The trail from Jorsalle to Namche is dotted with stunning views of the Himalayan Thar and the Lophophorus (known in Nepali as the Danphe or Himalayan Munal). The population of Namche is approximately 2300, and it is a hub for both trekkers and locals. Namche is also known for its weekly market, where Tibetan merchants come to sell their wares twice a year. Here, we can find a variety of trekking gear and equipment, and make arrangements for mule transportation or the use of yaks and dzos to reach higher elevations. During our stay in Namche, we will have the opportunity to explore the local culture, which is steeped in Buddhism, and to take in breathtaking views of the surrounding mountains.

  • Day 3

    Today, we will embark on a 6 to 7 hour hike around Namche. Our first destination is the view point at Japanese Hotel, located at an altitude of 3859 meters. From here, we will be able to witness the beauty of some of the world's highest mountains including Tabuche Peak (6495 meters), Choletse Peak (6335 meters), Nuptse (7864 meters), Everest (8848.86 meters), Lhotse (8516 meters), Lhotse Middle (8382 meters), Peak 38 (7591 meters), Amadablam (6814 meters), Kangtega (6783 meters), Thamserku (6618 meters), Kusum Kangaru, East West Middle, Nupla (5885 meters), Kongde (6088 meters), Kongde Nup and Sar, and Sundar Peak. We will then make our way to Syangboche, the world's highest airfield, located at an altitude of 3720 meters. After taking in the views, we will visit the nearby villages of Khumjung and Khunde. The roofs of the houses in these villages are of the same color, creating a picturesque landscape. In Khumjung, we will visit the Yati scalp, the education center and hospital that was established with the help of Edmund Hillary. In Khunde, we will visit the hospital, Yak breeding center, and the museum where we will be able to view a documentary slide show about the Everest region and its people. We will also visit the national park visitor center. Finally, we will head back to our hotel in Namche, stopping at the Namche Gumba along the way. After a long and exhilarating day, we will spend the night in the hotel, recharging our batteries for the next leg of our journey.

  • Day 4

    After breakfast in Namche, you will embark on a 6-7 hour trek towards Dole (4200m). The trail will take you through lush forests, offering opportunities to see various types of wildlife and stunning mountain views. While the first half of the journey may be busier, the latter half will be more peaceful and serene. You will end the day at a peaceful location, where you will spend the night. The tranquil surroundings will provide a welcome respite after a long day of trekking and will give you a chance to rest and recharge before continuing on your journey..

  • Day 5

    After breakfast in Dole, you will embark on a 5-hour trek to reach Machhermo (4470m). The area is known for its peaceful surroundings, which make it ideal for farming, particularly for growing potatoes and other vegetables. Along the way, you will be treated to panoramic views and an opportunity to observe the local yaks, who play an important role in the region's food supply. You will spend the night in Machhermo, where you will also visit the HRA (High Altitude Research Association) and receive valuable advice and information about high altitude areas from Dr. The HRA also offers a slideshow presentation on the topic, which will further enhance your understanding of the region. With a mix of stunning natural beauty, cultural immersion, and educational opportunities, your stay in Machhermo promises to be an enriching and unforgettable experience.

  • Day 6

    After breakfast in Machhermo, you will embark on a 3-4 hour trek to reach Gokyo (4790m). Your journey will take you along the Dudhakoshi River and past the first and second lakes. Once you arrive in Gokyo, you will visit the fifth lake, which promises to be a highlight of your trip. With its stunning views and tranquil surroundings, your visit to Gokyo promises to be an enriching and unforgettable experience. Whether you're a seasoned trekker or a newcomer to the mountains, the breathtaking beauty of the fifth lake and its surroundings will leave you in awe. Spend the night in Gokyo, surrounded by the magnificent Himalayas, and prepare for the next day's adventures.

  • Day 7

    The following day, you'll embark on a 7 to 8-hour trek from Gokyo to reach the Renjola Pass (5360m) and then Lumde (4368m). After breakfast, you'll start your ascent to the Renjola Pass, which takes around 3 to 4 hours. The trek offers breathtaking views of the surrounding lakes and mountains, including three peaks above 8,000 meters. Renjola Pass is known for its stunning panoramic views of the surrounding landscape. After reaching the top, you'll descend to Lumde, where you'll have lunch and spend the night. To ensure a successful and enjoyable trek, be sure to bring along energy bars, cookies, and water.

  • Day 8

    From Lumde, we will embark on a 5 to 6 hour trek towards Thamo (3440m). Our journey begins with breakfast and a scenic walk along the path surrounded by stunning views, including the way to the Tibetan border. We will pass by a few houses but with no vegetation plants. During the trek, we will also come across the old village of Thame, known for being the birthplace of several peak climbers, including Tenzing Norgay Sherpa. The village also generates hydropower to supply electricity to other areas. We will visit a monastery and nunnery in Thame and continue on to Thamo for an overnight stay.

  • Day 9

    From Thamo, you will embark on a 6 to 7 hour journey back to Phakding. After breakfast, you will traverse downwards through Namche and Jorsalle where you'll take a lunch break. The trek will follow the Dudhakoshi River, offering views of twin pine trees, rhododendrons, basket bamboos, and vegetation used for daily sustenance. You will spend the night near the Dudhakoshi River in Phakding.

  • Day 10

    After a filling breakfast in Phakding, you will embark on the final leg of your trek, with an estimated walking time of 3 to 4 hours, towards Lukla. The trail from Phakding to Lukla will take you down through picturesque villages and rolling hills, offering you a chance to take in the beauty of the surrounding landscape. Upon reaching Lukla, you will check into your overnight accommodations and get some rest. Before retiring for the night, you will visit the flight ticket counter to reconfirm your flight tickets for the next day, ensuring a smooth and stress-free departure. Later in the evening, you will gather with your team for a farewell dinner, giving you a chance to reflect on the amazing journey you've had and to express your appreciation to the staff members who have assisted you along the way. If you have been satisfied with the services provided by the staff, it is customary to tip them as a sign of gratitude.

  • Day 11

    After a fulfilling journey in the Himalayas, we will end our trek and head back to Kathmandu. In the morning, after having breakfast, we will walk to the airport, which is 15 minutes away, to catch our flight. The flight from Lukla to Kathmandu or Manthali will take approximately 25 minutes and 18 minutes, respectively. Upon arrival, we will transfer to our hotel in Kathmandu, where we will be able to rest and reflect on our memorable adventure in the mountains.
