Helambu, also known as Helmu, lies to the North East of Kathmandu Valley. Gosaikunda Helambu trek is one of the most popular and loved routes as it is easily accessible and has a favorable climate.
The trek is worth everything as it includes visiting the three major areas of Kathmandu Tibet Border, Langtang, Gosaikunda and Helambu. Langtang is a narrow valley that lies between the main Himalayan range to the north and in a slightly lower range of snowy peaks to the south.
A visit to this valley is an opportunity of exploring the villages, climb small peaks and visit a few glaciers at a low elevation. You get to visit the holy lake of Gosaikunda upon returning to Kathmandu. Thousands of Hindus and Buddhists visit this lake during the full moon festival in mid-August to worship Shiva. The Gosaikunda Helambu trek is popular also due to the shortness in its length. This trekking route is less crowded and is free from noise compared to other trekking routes. You will get to witness a wide range of cultures and breathtaking seceneries en route along with a glance of some Himalayan wild animals like mountain goats, deer, red pandas and numerous species of birds.
