What does the Mardi Himal trek cost?

Published:
Updated:

At HC Treks, the standard 7-day Mardi Himal trek costs USD 765 per person, discounted from the standard rate of USD 1,220. This price can drop to as low as USD 555 for larger private groups. This scenic Annapurna trek offers you close-up views of Mount Machhapuchhre and is often considered one of the best moderate treks for beginners who want quieter trails without sacrificing mountain views.

Group SizeCost Per Person
2-3 peopleUSD 765
4-7 peopleUSD 610
8-10 peopleUSD 555

These group discounts are based entirely on your own private group size. We do not combine travelers with strangers just to create a bigger group and lower the rate artificially. So if you are traveling as a family of four or with a group of friends, you automatically qualify for the USD 610 price.

If you have a little more time, the 9-day Mardi Himal with Ghorepani itinerary starts from USD 965 per person for groups of 2-3 people. It combines the quieter Mardi Himal ridge trail with the classic Ghorepani trekking route and the sunrise view from Poon Hill, giving you two very different Annapurna experiences in one trip.

What’s included and excluded in a Mardi Himal trek package

Our Mardi Himal trek package is fully supported and transparently priced, so you know exactly what you are paying for before the trek even begins. The package is designed to keep the entire experience straightforward from start to finish. It covers all the core mountain logistics: trekking permits (ACAP), private ground transport, teahouse accommodation, three standard meals a day, and a licensed guide and porter team.

A lot of cheaper packages advertise a low starting price, then charge extra later for meals, permits, transport, or porter support. Our pricing is upfront, so you see the real cost before booking instead of discovering hidden expenses during the trek. What we don’t cover are your personal costs, such as travel insurance, city hotels, Wi-Fi, hot showers, and international flights.

Mardi Himal Trek Guide and Porter Cost

We handle all staff wages, insurance, and trekking logistics internally, so there are no surprise crew charges during the trip. We provide:

  • Licensed Guide: One government-licensed, English-speaking trekking guide (valued at USD 25-35 per day).
  • Porter Service: One porter shared between two trekkers (valued at USD 20-25 per day). Luggage Limit up to 10 kg (22 lbs) per trekker.

Having an experienced local crew makes a huge difference on Himalayan trails. The guide handles navigation, timing, accommodation coordination, and altitude-related decisions, while the porter support makes the trek physically much easier and more enjoyable.

Mardi Himal Trek Permit Fees and Administrative Costs

You need a mandatory government permit to legally trek the Mardi Himal route: the Annapurna Conservation Area Permit (ACAP). It is fully covered in our package, tax included. You don’t have to handle any extra paperwork yourself.

  • ACAP Permit (NPR 3,000 / approx. USD 23): This permit gives entry into the protected Annapurna Conservation Area Project zone. It helps fund trail maintenance and is checked at official entry points like Pothana or Kande.
  • Government Taxes & Admin Fees: All local taxes, municipality fees, and agency service charges are included in the package upfront.

Independent trekkers usually need to apply for these in person at the Nepal Tourism Board offices in Kathmandu or Pokhara with a passport and photos. With HC Treks, we handle the entire process in advance, so you skip the office queues and head straight to the trail.

Transportation Cost for Mardi Himal Trek

Our package also covers all your local ground transport from the moment you land in Nepal until your trek finishes. You don’t need to worry about tickets, road fees, or arranging trailhead rides separately.

  • Kathmandu Airport Transfers: Private pickup and drop-off at Tribhuvan International Airport (KTM) to your hotel, and back at the end of your trip.
  • Kathmandu to Pokhara Round Trip: Comfortable air-conditioned tourist bus tickets for the 200 km highway journey between Kathmandu and Pokhara in both directions.
  • Pokhara to Trailhead Transfers: Private jeep or taxi from your Pokhara hotel to the trailhead at Kande, and return transport from Sidhing back to Pokhara after the trek.

This covers all domestic ground transport needed for the itinerary. It does not include your international flights to Nepal, or optional domestic flights between Kathmandu and Pokhara if you choose to upgrade for a quicker journey.

Food and Accommodation Cost During Mardi Himal Trek

We cover your complete room and board while you are on the trekking trail. This keeps you protected from the usual high-altitude price spikes that independent trekkers often mention in travel forums.

  • Teahouse Lodging: Clean, twin-sharing rooms in traditional mountain lodges, usually with basic wooden beds, warm blankets, and open mountain views.
  • Three Meals a Day: Breakfast, lunch, and dinner taken directly from the teahouse menus. Expect a mix of Nepali dal bhat, noodles, eggs, pancakes, pasta, and hot drinks with every meal.

A quick note on costs: the package covers food and accommodation only during the trekking days. Stays in Kathmandu and Pokhara before and after the trek are not included. This actually gives you flexibility. You can go budget-friendly or choose a more comfortable hotel depending on your travel style.

What’s usually excluded from the Mardi Himal Trek Packages

While our package is designed to be fully transparent and cover all core trekking logistics, there are still a few personal expenses that fall outside standard agency coverage. These depend mainly on your comfort level, gear choices, and travel plans outside the trail itself. To help you budget clearly, here’s what you’ll need to handle separately:

  1. Travel Insurance: Must include emergency medical coverage and helicopter evacuation up to 4,500 meters (around USD 50-150 depending on provider and nationality).
  2. Accommodations and meals in Kathmandu & Pokhara: Budget hotel stays usually range fromUSD 15-40 per night, while mid-range and luxury options go higher( approx. USD 50-150+ per night).
  3. Teahouse extras: Hot showers, Wi-Fi, and device charging are charged locally in the mountains (typically NPR 200-500 / USD 1.50-4 per service at higher altitudes).
  4. Drinks: Alcohol, bottled water, soft drinks, and specialty coffees (approx. USD 2-5 per drink). They get more expensive as you go higher on the trail.
  5. Personal gear: Rental or purchase of items like sleeping bags, trekking poles, down jackets, and seasonal clothing (roughly USD 1-3 per item per day if rented in Kathmandu or Pokhara).
  6. Tips: Gratuities for your guide and porter at the end of the trek. A common range is around USD 10-15 per day per group, split among the trekking crew.
  7. Excess luggage: Extra porter support or storage fees if your luggage goes beyond the 10 kg limit (around USD 15-20 per extra day if an additional porter is required).
  8. International flights & visa: International flights to Kathmandu and Nepal visa fees (USD 30 for 15 days, USD 50 for 30 days, or USD 125 for 90 days).

Mardi Himal Trek Itinerary Variations and Cost Differences

HC Treks offers two itineraries for the Mardi Himal Trek. One is the standard 7-day Mardi Himal Trek, and another is the 9-day Mardi Himal and Ghorepani Poon Hill Trek. The price difference is completely straightforward. The 9-day option simply adds two extra trekking days, which means two more teahouse nights, meals, and extended guide and porter services.

The 7-day package starting at just USD 765 per person covers the complete Mardi Himal experience: Low Camp, High Camp, and the viewpoint at 4,042 m. Everything is included: permits, licensed guide, porter, all meals, and accommodation during the trek.

Similarly, the 9-day Mardi Himal with Ghorepani starts at USD 965 per person, roughly USD 200 more. Those two extra days add the Ghorepani circuit, Poon Hill sunrise, and the Jhinu Danda hot springs before joining the Mardi Himal trail. Same max altitude, more trail, higher total cost.

Best Time for Mardi Himal Trek and Its Impact on Cost

Our package rates at HC Treks stay the same year-round, but the season you choose can change your overall trip experience and your extra travel costs. This especially affects international flights, city hotels, and how comfortable the trip feels.

Peak Season Spring (March-May)

Spring is considerably the best time for the Mardi Himal Base Camp trek. The lower sections from the trailhead up to Forest Camp turn into rhododendron-covered forests, and the upper ridge gives clear, wide views of the Annapurna range on most days. Long daylight hours also make the trek feel more relaxed and flexible.

Budget reality: This is a high-demand season, so everything outside the trek package costs more. Flights to Kathmandu and hotels in Pokhara are usually at peak pricing, and last-minute bookings are limited.

High Demand and Stable Conditions of Autumn (September-November)

Autumn is the most stable and popular trekking season in Nepal. Post-monsoon skies are clean, visibility is at its best, and you get sharp, dramatic views of Mount Machhapuchhre and Annapurna South. Similarly, trails stay dry, safe, and easy to follow.

Budget reality: High demand for flights and hotels raises their prices, especially in October. If you want slightly better deals, late September or early November usually gives a bit more flexibility without sacrificing conditions.

Mardi Himal Trek

Lower Costs, Greater Trade-Offs during Winter and Monsoon

These are the off-seasons, cheaper in terms of flights and hotels, but way more unpredictable on the trail.

During Winter (Dec-Feb), expect severe cold, especially above High Camp. Temperatures here can drop well below freezing at night. Snow often covers the upper ridge and can make sections toward the viewpoint more challenging without proper gear like insulated layers, gloves, and sometimes microspikes. The upside? The skies are often crystal clear after snowfall, and the mountains look sharper than almost any other season. The quiet, empty trails make you feel almost like you’ve got the Himalayas to yourself.

Similarly, in Monsoon (Jun-Aug), the Mardi Himal trek route shows you the wet and unpredictable side. The forest trails are muddy and slippery. To add, frequent cloud cover blocks mountain views. Monsoon season also brings leeches to the area below Forest Camp, and the landslides and soil erosion in the steep section above Deurali. Lower roads to Siding and Lwang Ghalel also often see temporary washouts and delays. You may get clear views occasionally, but they’re super rare and short-lived.

Mardi Himal felt like one of those secret spots you just wanna keep to yourself. Seriously, I had no clue this trail would steal my heart the way it did. Picture this: calm, uncrowded paths, and views that are nothing short of epic. Walking along the ridge with clouds swirling beneath our feet? Absolutely insane! It felt like nature had saved the best for those of us willing to wander just a bit off the beaten path.

HC Treks made everything a breeze like, not a single hiccup. From cozy tea house stays to smooth transfers, everything just flowed. Our guide was super chill but clearly knew his stuff, which let us just kick back and enjoy the experience. No stressing about where to eat or when to move; it was all about pure mountain bliss. I mean, who wouldn’t want that?

If you’re craving those big views and quiet trails without the Everest crowds, this trek is a no-brainer. I came back with a camera roll bursting at the seams and an even fuller heart. Trust me, if you’re looking for an adventure that feels like a hidden treasure, Mardi Himal is calling your name!

Mardi Himal Trek Difficulty Level and Budget Considerations

The Mardi Himal trek is beginner-friendly, yes, but that doesn’t mean it will be easy. While not technical, it is still a high-altitude Himalayan trek. You need at least a decent basic fitness and a realistic pace. Trek difficulty isn’t just about fitness. It directly impacts your total trip cost. On Himalayan trails, how fast (or slow) you move through altitude changes affects your itinerary length, which then changes how much you spend on food, accommodation, and crew support.

Why slower acclimatization can increase overall cost

Altitude adaptation plays a big role in overall budgeting. If your body needs a slower pace to adjust safely, your expenses naturally increase in three ways:

  • Extra acclimatization days: A slower ascent reduces AMS risk but extends your itinerary.
  • More daily costs: Each extra day adds teahouse stays and three mountain meals.
  • Higher crew expenses: Guides and porters are paid per day, so longer trips increase total wages and allowances.

Our standard 7-day itinerary is designed to balance safe acclimatization with an efficient timeline, helping keep the trek both safe and cost-effective.

Why experienced guides matter on quieter trails

Mardi Himal is a moderate trek, but that doesn’t automatically make it beginner-safe without support. In fact, its quieter and less crowded nature is exactly why an experienced guide becomes necessary, not optional. They handle navigation, safety decisions, weather assessment, and daily logistics.

Mardi Himal with Raju Lama famous Nepalese Singer

On popular routes like the Annapurna Base Camp or the Everest Base Camp Trek, you often have a steady flow of trekkers to follow. Mardi Himal doesn’t offer that safety net. The trail can fade in fog or snow, weather can shift suddenly at higher altitudes, and teahouse arrangements may need last-minute changes depending on conditions. Without someone who knows the route well, even simple navigation can become uncertain.

The difficulty also increases after High Camp (3,580 m), where the path toward the ridge and viewpoint (~4,500 m) becomes steeper, narrower, and more exposed. At this stage, the challenge isn’t just physical, it’s judgment. Knowing when to push forward, when to slow down, and when conditions are no longer safe matters more than speed or strength.

What makes HCT’s Mardi Himal trek package different

At HC Treks, we provide affordable rates without compromising on service quality. Everything is structured to keep your Mardi Himal Trek smooth, safe, and fully supported from start to finish.

  • Complete Ground Logistics: Airport transfers in Kathmandu, round-trip tourist bus between Kathmandu and Pokhara, and private transport to and from the trailheads.
  • Full Support Crew: Government-licensed English-speaking guide plus porter support (1 porter for every 2 trekkers, 10 kg luggage limit per person). All wages, insurance, food, and accommodation for staff are included.
  • All-Inclusive Room & Board: Three daily meals from teahouse menus and twin-sharing accommodation during the trek. No extra budgeting needed for food or lodging on the trail.
  • Pre-Arranged Permits: All the required permits are secured in advance, so you avoid government office visits and paperwork delays in Nepal.
  • Emergency Rescue Support: Guides are trained to coordinate immediate evacuation procedures and assist with helicopter rescue logistics through your insurance in case of AMS or injury.
  • Private Group Pricing: Pricing is based only on your own group, no mixing with strangers. This keeps your pace, comfort, and experience fully private.

Overall, our agenda is simple: to offer transparent upfront pricing, no hidden costs, and reliable support so you can focus fully on the trek itself.

Practical ways to save money on the Mardi Himal trek

Trekking in Nepal doesn’t always have to be pricey, especially if you plan it smartly before you arrive. On the Mardi Himal route, small decisions around group size, season, and daily spending can easily bring your total cost down without affecting the actual experience.

  • Travel in a group: At HC Treks, bigger private groups directly reduce your package cost. 2-3 people pay USD 765, while 4-7 people pay USD 610 per person.
  • Pick the right season: Late September or early November gives you good weather without peak October crowds, which helps you save on flights and hotel rates in Kathmandu and Pokhara.
  • Rent instead of buying gear: In Pokhara Lakeside, you can rent jackets, sleeping bags, and poles for about USD 1-3 per day instead of buying expensive gear you’ll rarely reuse.
  • Cut unnecessary travel expenses: Use a power bank instead of paying for charging, carry water purification tablets instead of buying bottled water, and save drinks or alcohol for after the trek in town.

Smart planning keeps the trek affordable. You don’t lose the experience. You just remove the unnecessary costs around it.
