If you are ready for an unforgettable adventure, book with us today or contact us for more information to make your dream of visiting Everest come true!
Day 1 begins with an early morning flight from Kathmandu’s domestic airport, or from Ramechhap during peak trekking season. The flight takes about 40 minutes from Kathmandu and 20 minutes from Manthali. From the left side of the aircraft, you will see Gaurishankar, the Langtang range, the Dorje Lhakpa range, the Everest range, and even the Shishapangma range of China. The flight is operated by Tara Air, Sita Air, or Summit Air, using small DHC-6 Twin Otter or Dornier Do 228 aircraft.
After landing at the Tenzing-Hillary Airport, we do not start trekking immediately. Instead, we meet our team. If the flight arrives early, we will have breakfast; if it is later, we will have lunch. After that, we hold a short meeting with everyone involved in the trek to discuss and plan the journey ahead.
Once the plan is set, we’ll begin walking toward Phakding (2,610 m). Along the way, we complete the national park entry and local entry procedures. The villages in this region are mostly Buddhist; therefore, the trails are decorated with prayer flags, stone carvings, monasteries, and Chorten (stupa) monuments.

The 5-day Everest Base Camp Trek with Helicopter Return is perfect for trekkers who want to experience the adventure of reaching Everest Base Camp and Kala Patthar without committing to a longer trek. The combination of trekking and helicopter flight offers the best of both worlds: the thrill of the mountains and the convenience of time-saving transportation. Here is why you should consider it:
If you are limited on time but still want to experience the iconic Everest Base Camp, this trek provides the perfect balance. With a helicopter return from Kala Patthar or Everest Base Camp, you will save valuable trekking days while still exploring the region’s beauty up close. In just 5 days, you will visit famous landmarks like Namche Bazaar, trek through Sherpa villages, and witness Everest from one of the highest points in the world.
One of the biggest advantages of this trek is the helicopter ride that brings you back to Lukla from Everest Base Camp or Kala Patthar. Trekking back down can be time-consuming and physically demanding, especially at high altitudes. By flying back, you will not only save time but also avoid the extra strain of descending. The helicopter ride provides an incredible view of the mountains, glaciers, and valleys, making it a once-in-a-lifetime experience.
The traditional Everest Base Camp trek requires a long and sometimes strenuous descent back to Lukla. By opting for the helicopter return, you bypass this extended journey, which is particularly beneficial if you are limited by time or energy. It also minimizes the risk of altitude-related issues since you won’t be spending additional days at high altitudes after reaching Everest Base Camp.
Throughout this trek, you will enjoy stunning views of the world’s highest peaks, including Mount Everest (8848.86 meters), Lhotse (8,516 meters), Makalu (8,485 m), and Ama Dablam (6,812 m). With this helicopter ride, you will not only get to witness the towering peaks but can also get aerial views of glaciers and diverse landscapes. The trek will take you through picturesque Sherpa villages, lush forests, and tranquil rivers, all contributing to an unforgettable adventure.
Beginning our journey, we will get a thrilling start with a scenic flight from Kathmandu or Manthali to Lukla, known as one of the most exciting airports in the world. The short flight will offer us breathtaking aerial views of lush valleys, winding rivers, and the snow-capped Himalayan peaks. Once we land in Lukla, we will meet our trekking crew and begin walking toward Phakding. The trail will take us through beautiful Sherpa villages, lush forests, and the peaceful Dudh Koshi River.

Crossing several suspension bridges adorned with prayer flags, we will pass charming settlements like Chaurikharka and Ghat before reaching Phakding, where we will rest and prepare for the next day. The return journey will be equally exciting, offering a mix of adventure and relaxation. After trekking to Namche Bazaar and exploring the region, we will take a breathtaking helicopter ride to Everest Base Camp or Kala Patthar.
The flight will give us an unmatched aerial view of Everest, the Khumbu Icefall, and other towering peaks. After soaking in the panoramic vistas, we will fly back to Lukla, where we will spend the night. The next morning, we will take our return flight to Kathmandu or Manthali, bringing us back to civilization with unforgettable memories of the Himalayas.
The EBC Helicopter Trek can be physically demanding, despite the helicopter return from Everest Base Camp. The altitude will make breathing more difficult as you trek to higher elevations. The air gets thinner the higher you go, which can lead to fatigue, especially during the steep climbs to places like Namche Bazaar and Kala Patthar. The rugged terrain, including rocky paths, steep ascents, and slippery sections, will also test your stamina and balance.
Even though the helicopter ride saves time on the return journey, the trekking portion still requires significant physical effort and preparation. In addition to the physical challenges, you will face unpredictable weather. The conditions in the Everest region can change rapidly, with sudden snowstorms, rain, or strong winds, making the trail more difficult and potentially dangerous.
Limited resources at higher altitudes can also pose difficulties as the supply of food, water, and medical assistance becomes more limited. The lack of proper amenities as you trek deeper into the mountains means you will need to adapt to basic accommodations and simple meals. Altogether, the rugged terrain, unpredictable weather, and limited resources make the EBC Helicopter Trek a tough yet rewarding adventure.
The best seasons for your Everest Base Camp (EBC) trek with a helicopter return will be Spring (March to May) and Autumn (September to November). During these times, you will experience stable weather, clear skies, and stunning views of the Himalayas. In Spring, the trails will be lush and vibrant, with rhododendrons blooming along the way. The weather will be mild, with daytime temperatures ranging from 5°C to 15°C, while slightly cooler temperatures can be expected at higher elevations.
In Autumn, the monsoon rains will have cleared, and you will be treated to crisp, blue skies. You will get a moderate temperature ranging between 5°C to 15°C, making your trek a lot more comfortable. However, during the peak seasons, the trail can be quite crowded. Trekking in autumn not only offers you clear mountain views but also provides you a chance to immerse yourself in two of the major festivals of Nepal, Dashain and Tihar. This season is perfect for both natural and cultural immersion in Nepal.

While Spring and Autumn are the prime seasons, you could also consider trekking in Winter (December to February) if you prefer a quieter experience. However, the colder temperatures and the potential for snow might make the trek more challenging. Monsoon (June to August) is generally avoided due to heavy rains, slippery trails, and poor visibility.
During your Everest Base Camp (EBC) trek with a helicopter return, you will find a variety of food and accommodation options along the trail designed to meet the needs of trekkers.
Accommodation during the trek will primarily be in teahouses, small lodges run by local families. These teahouses offer basic yet comfortable rooms with shared or sometimes private bathrooms. You will typically sleep in dormitory-style rooms with fellow trekkers, but as you approach higher altitudes, the rooms may be smaller with fewer amenities. Blankets are provided, but bringing your own sleeping bag is recommended for added comfort. While the rooms may be basic, they will provide warmth and shelter after a long day of trekking. Some teahouses in popular spots like Namche Bazaar and Lukla may offer slightly better facilities, such as hot showers and Wi-Fi (though Wi-Fi can be slow and intermittent).
The teahouses along the route will offer a range of traditional Nepali and Western food. You will be able to enjoy hot meals like dal bhat (lentil soup with rice), momos (dumplings), noodle soups, and sandwiches. For breakfast, you can expect options such as porridge, toast, eggs, and pancakes. Snacks like energy bars, fruit, and tea or coffee are commonly available, especially at higher altitudes. While the food is simple, it is nutritious and helps keep you energized for the long trekking days. Keep in mind that the higher you go, the more limited the menu might become, but the food will be fresh and prepared to provide the energy you need.
To prepare physically for the EBC Helicopter Trek, you should start training several weeks before your trek. Focus on improving your cardiovascular endurance by engaging in activities like hiking, running, or cycling. Strengthen your legs with exercises such as squats, lunges, and step-ups, as the trek involves a lot of uphill and downhill walking. It is also helpful to hike on uneven terrain to get used to the rugged paths you will face. If possible, try to do some hill or mountain hiking to prepare for the altitude. Additionally, hiking with a backpack will help simulate the conditions you will experience during the trek.
Mental preparation is just as important as physical training. The journey to Everest Base Camp can be mentally challenging due to the long trekking days and unpredictable weather. You will need to stay positive and be patient with yourself, especially since things may change unexpectedly due to weather or other factors. It is also important to mentally prepare for altitude sickness. Take it slow and listen to your body when at higher elevations. Practicing mindfulness or deep breathing techniques can help you stay calm and focused during the trek, especially during tough moments.
For the EBC Helicopter Trek, you will typically have a baggage limit of around 10–12 kg (22–26 lbs) for your trekking gear. This limit is due to the weight restrictions on domestic flights to Lukla and the need to pack light for the trek itself. Focus on packing only the essentials, such as sturdy hiking boots, warm clothing, a sleeping bag, personal toiletries, and a small first aid kit. You should also bring a water bottle, snacks, and a camera to capture the beautiful views. Any extra baggage can usually be stored in Lukla or Kathmandu, so aim to pack efficiently for the trek.
Hiring a guide and porter for your Everest Base Camp trek is highly beneficial. A guide will not only help you navigate the trail but also offer valuable knowledge about the local culture, wildlife, and surrounding landscapes. They will also handle the logistics, like managing permits and communicating with locals. A porter will carry your heavy gear, which allows you to enjoy the trek without the burden of a large backpack. The cost for a guide is usually around $25–$30 per day, and a porter costs around $15–$20 per day. Tipping is customary at the end of the trek, and a tip of 10–15% of the total cost is appreciated.
You will need a tourist visa to enter Nepal for your Everest Base Camp trek. Most travelers can get a visa upon arrival at the Tribhuvan International Airport in Kathmandu or at the land borders. The visa costs approximately $30 for 15 days, $50 for 30 days, and $125 for 90 days. You will need a valid passport, a passport-sized photo, and the visa fee. You can also apply for an e-visa online before you travel, which can save time upon arrival. Ensure your visa is valid for the duration of your stay, as overstaying can result in fines.
Getting travel insurance is a must for your Everest Base Camp trek. It will protect you against unexpected situations like flight cancellations, lost baggage, or medical emergencies. With the risks associated with trekking in high altitudes, insurance that includes medical evacuation and coverage for altitude-related illnesses is crucial. You can get travel insurance from companies like World Nomads, Allianz, or others that cover trekking up to certain altitudes. Make sure your insurance covers emergency helicopter evacuation, which can be expensive without coverage. It is best to arrange it before your trip to avoid any problems during your trek.
