Everest didn’t Just Take My Breath Away – It Stole My Heart

I set out on the 12-day Everest Base Camp trek, ready for breathtaking mountain vistas and I got exactly that. But what truly surprised me was how this adventure rewired the way I view the world around me. Those crisp morning walks past spinning prayer wheels, the steaming mugs of ginger tea at 4,000 meters, that first glimpse of Everest’s imposing north face… it all added up to something magical. Our guides from HC Treks weren’t just experts, they became friends who seemed to know exactly when we needed encouragement or when to let us soak in the silence.

Let’s be real, it was tough. My legs definitely complained (especially on those endless stone steps!), but the experience was perfectly balanced, challenging enough to feel accomplished, never so hard it stopped being fun. Some of my clearest memories? Sitting with fellow trekkers playing cards at teahouses, how the thin air made everything taste better (even instant noodles!), and that surreal moment waking up to see the Khumbu Icefall glowing in dawn light outside my window.

If you’re looking for more than just a hike, if you want those quiet moments that sneak up on you and rearrange your priorities this is your trip. I came home with sore muscles but also this crazy sense of calm I can’t explain. Pro tip: Pack light but bring an extra memory card you’ll need it for all the jaw-dropping views you’ll want to remember forever.
