Yak Grazing Fields at Lhafarma and Luza

Grazing fields at Lhafarma and Luza are a special sight along the Machhermo route. These two places are not large, permanent villages like Namche Bazaar, but rather groups of stone huts used seasonally by yak herders. They serve as temporary homes for herders and storage points for their cheese, butter, and other products. You are likely to see herds of yaks and their hybrids (chauris) grazing in these vast, open pastures.

Beautiful Views of Ngozumpa Glacier and Cho Oyu Peaks

Ngozumpa Glacier Lateral Moraine

As you trek from Dole to Machhermo, you’ll encounter some of the first impressive views of the Ngozumpa Glacier and Cho Oyu peaks. As you approach Machhermo, you are moving closer to the terminal moraine of the Ngozumpa Glacier, Nepal’s longest glacier. On the trail, you’ll have your first view of Cho Oyu (8,188 m), the sixth-highest mountain in the world. As you ascend to Dudh Koshi Valley, the peaks appear prominently on the horizon.

Himalayan Rescue Association (HRA) Post

The Himalayan Rescue Association (HRA) Post near Machhermo is an important stop on the trail. It conducts daily afternoon lectures on the prevention, symptoms, and treatment of AMS, which is a life-saving practice for anyone venturing to high elevations. The post is staffed by experienced volunteers who monitor weather and health conditions. Visiting the HRA Post also offers a chance to learn about local rescue operations and mountain safety.

Team Adventure to the Top of the World

Three of us from Sydney decided to take on the Gokyo route to EBC and it was one of the best trips we’ve ever done. We wanted something a bit off the main path, and this was perfect. The views from Cho La Pass were wild, and our guide handled the tough terrain like a pro. The support from the porters and the warmth of the teahouses made even the cold nights feel comforting. Big thanks to HC Treks for making everything seamless.

Breathtaking Views from EBC

I set out on this adventure solo, but it didn’t take long for me to find my tribe with HC Treks. We bonded over steaming plates of Dal Bhat, tackled some seriously tough climbs, and soaked in views that felt like they were straight out of a postcard. Standing at Everest Base Camp with Gokyo glistening behind me was a moment I’ll never forget. It was like I’d conquered not just the mountain, but something deep within myself.

HC Treks really nailed the organization, everything from acclimatization to cozy tea house stays was spot on. This route is a hidden gem; you get to enjoy the stunning beauty without the usual crowds. If you’re looking for an adventure that’s as much about the journey as it is about the destination, trust me, you won’t want to miss this. Grab your gear, and let’s hit the trails together!

HC Treks organized everything so well, and our guide was a legend, patient, funny, and full of interesting info. The lodges were cozy, food was great, and the altitude pacing was just right.
