Jagat to Deng while Trekking through Manaslu Circuit
People say trekking from Jagat to Deng is like climbing a ladder one step at a time with better views of Mount Sringi and Budhi Gandaki Valley. Well, I fully agree with this saying. This climb helps you to enjoy the scenery while slowly gaining altitude. The trail covers around 15-16 km and takes 6-7 hrs to complete. You’ll start from Jagat at 1,300 m and climb to Deng at 1,860 m, gaining approximately 560 m in altitude.
Trekking from Jagat to Deng in Manaslu Circuit takes you through rhododendron forests, suspension bridge over Budhi Gandaki River and Ghatta Khola, and terrace farmlands where locals grow millet and maize. The trail is not steep, so it will be easy for trekkers to adjust to higher altitudes before reaching Deng. The journey from Jagat to Deng reveals the lifestyle of the local Tamang and Gurung people, along with the beautiful landscapes of the region.
Tatopani Hot Springs and Suspension Bridges by the Budhi Gandaki
Tatopani comes before Jagat on the 12 Days Manaslu Circuit Trek route, about 1-2 hrs of descent from Jagat. At an altitude of around 1,200 m, this small stop is known for its natural hot springs. Tatopani in Nepali means “hot water,” and many trekkers pause here to relax tired muscles after hours of walking on the trail. The water is rich in minerals like Sulphur, Calcium, Magnesium, Potassium, and locals believe it helps with joint pain and fatigue.

Just beyond Tatopani, there is a steel suspension bridge over the Budhi Gandaki River. The bridge is important for connecting nearby villages and guiding trekkers toward Jagat. The trail then climbs from here toward Jagat at 1,300 m, making Tatopani and its bridge a main highlight before entering the core section of the Manaslu Circuit trek.
Setting Out from Jagat & Passing Through Checkpoints
Jagat is the key checkpoint town where you must register your permits before setting out toward the higher Himalayan villages like Deng. Here, your permits are checked by the Nepal police and sometimes immigration officials. Nepalese trekking regulations require carrying (RAP, ACAP, and MCAP), which ensure safety and legal entry into the restricted area.

After leaving Jagat, the trail follows the Budhi Gandaki River. You’ll pass through several villages like Salleri and Philim before reaching a larger village known as Sridibas. This is a good moment to connect with locals, explore traditional houses, and enjoy views of Budhi Gandaki Valley below. Friendly interaction with residents will help you know daily village life, including farming, animal care, and simple household routines. With business in these activities, the Manaslu Circuit trek difficulty will feel lighter than most people expect.
Visiting Sirdibas Village and Tibetan Cultural Highlights
Sirdibas lies on the trail between Jagat and Deng, reached after passing through Philim. At approximately 1,430 m, it stands as one of the first villages where trekkers notice strong Tibetan traditions. The village has stone houses, terraced fields, and beautiful views of the Budhi Gandaki Valley. Mani walls, colorful prayer flags, and small monasteries reflect Buddhist culture, inspired by long years of trade and cultural contact with Tibet.

Life in Sirdibas follows traditional ways. Families farm millet, potatoes, and maize, while some raise yaks and take part in trading. For trekkers on the way from Jagat to Deng village, Sirdibas offers a different environment compared to lower settlements like Soti Khola and Machha Khola. The path here opens wider with a more open view. Many stop for a short break to observe the Himalayan beauties like Manaslu (8,163 m) and Himalchuli (7,893 m). Sridibas offers the first real encounter with Tibetan culture before the climb continues toward Deng.
Crossing Nyak Phedi and Entering Bamboo and Pine Forests
Nyak Phedi is a small settlement on the Jagat to Deng trail, located between Jagat (1,300 m) and Deng (1,860 m). It takes 3-4 hrs of walking from Jagat to reach this village. Situated at around 1,500 m, Nyak Phedi has a few stone houses and terraced farms. Historically, it served as a resting point for traders and herders moving along the Budhi Gandaki Valley. After Nyak Phedi, the trail enters bamboo and pine forests. The temperature around here is cool (15°C to 25°C ) and suitable for continuous trekking.

Wildlife such as birds, langurs, and small mammals can sometimes be spotted along the way. Locals have traditionally used these forests for firewood, bamboo crafts, and grazing yaks or goats. The trail climbs about 360 m from Nyak Phedi toward Deng. Crossing Nyak Phedi and walking through these forests is a key part of the Jagat to Deng trek difficulty, preparing trekkers for higher settlements ahead.
