Syabrubesi to Lama Hotel

Published:
Updated:

Syabrubesi says goodbye and Lama Hotel says hello. This scenic route for Langtang Gosaikunda Trek from Syabrubesi to Lama Hotel takes around 7 to 8 hours, covering a total distance of 14.8 km / 9.1 miles. You’ll climb from 1,560 m at Syabrubesi to 2,350 m at Lama Hotel, gaining a total of 790 m in altitude. Short steps, big views, and local greetings along the way.

This trail has a history as part of the old trade route connecting the Kathmandu Valley to Tibet. The weather here is moderate, but it can get cold and rainy in the monsoon and winter. The trail is good with well-marked paths and a strong wooden bridge over the Langtang River. You can enjoy a peaceful forest trek, wildlife sightings, and explore Tamang village that tells stories of centuries-old Himalayan life.

Following the Bhote Koshi Valley

Starting from Syabrubesi (1,560 m), the trail follows the Bhote Koshi River, a tributary originating from the glaciers of Langtang Lirung (7,227 m). Early on, you’ll cross a suspension bridge and reach Pahiro (Bamboo) village at 1,780 m. Pahiro has historically been a resting point for traders moving between Nepal and Tibet, and its simple teahouse still reflects that legacy.

The trail then continues ascending to Rimche Village (2,100 m), which lies at the junction where the valley opens up before narrowing into the Langtang Gorge. From Rimche, the final step leads to Lama Hotel (2,350 m). Lama hotel is not a single hotel; it is a cluster of small lodges and guesthouses that serve as an important overnight rest stop. It is located beneath the Langtang Lirung and offers panoramic views of the river, terraced fields, and local settlements that have existed for centuries.

Must-See Views Before Reaching Lama Hotel from Syabrubesi

The trail from Syabrubesi to Lama Hotel is full of unique sights that you cannot see anywhere else. Every turn gives a new view of the Langtang Valley, local villages, and Himalayan peaks.

  • Bhote Koshi River Views: The river flows from the Zhangzangbo glaciers of Tibet, which offer beautiful waterfalls and crystal-clear sections on the path perfect for photos
  • Langtang Lirung: The first peak visible from Pahiro (Bamboo) Village
  • Pahiro (Bamboo) Village: Traditional stone houses with slate roofs, terraced fields, and a historical resting stop
  • Rimche Village: Offers clear views of Langtang Ri (7,205 m) and Langshisa Ri (6,427 m)
  • Lama Hotel Viewpoint: Provides a full panorama of Langtang Valley, Langtang River, and Langtang Lirung

Rest Stop in the Langtang Trek

Between Syabrubesi and Lama Hotel, the main rest points are Bamboo and Rimche Village. Both offer teahouses with simple foods and comfortable places to relax. The final and most important rest stop is Lama Hotel (2,350 m). It is not just a place to sleep; it is a hub where trekkers gather, share stories, and prepare for the Gosaikunda trails ahead.

The Langtang region is full of popular rest stops where trekkers pause to eat, drink, and recover. Places like Kyanjin Gompa and Langtang Village are well known for their comfort and scenic views of Himalayas. These stops give you a chance to meet locals, taste home-cooked meals, and explore the ancient foundations like the Yak Cheese Factory, Shin Gompa, and Phulung Monastery.

“A Father-Son Journey Through Langtang’s Green Trails”

I recently took a trek with my teenage son as a post-exam bonding trip, and wow, it turned out to be one of the most meaningful experiences we’ve ever shared! The altitude near Gosaikunda definitely tested us, but our guide from HC Treks was a rockstar mixing encouragement, patience, and just the right amount of positivity. Langtang Valley was even greener and more peaceful than I’d imagined. Every twist and turn in the trail revealed something new, from monkeys swinging above the trees to serene monasteries nestled in the hills.

HC Treks made us feel like we were part of something bigger than just a hike. They didn’t treat us like customers; they treated us like family. My son came back with a newfound confidence, and I returned with a grateful heart and a camera full of epic photos. It was a journey that truly brought us closer in all the right ways. If you’re looking for an adventure that’s more than just a trek, I can’t recommend HC Treks enough!

“A Trek Through Langtang’s Natural Beauty and Warm Friendships”

This trek offered the perfect balance of nature and cultural depth. Our group had six people from four different countries, and we bonded like old friends over dal bhat and card games at night. The hike itself was challenging but rewarding, especially when we crossed Lauribina La and reached the sacred Gosaikunda lakes. HC Treks managed every detail smoothly, and our guide had the best mountain stories. Definitely one of my favorite travel experiences ever.

Altitude & Accommodations at Lama Hotel

Lama Hotel at 2,530 m is one of the most important overnight stops on the Langtang Valley Trek. Accommodations and food in Langtang region are simple but dependable, with wooden beds, clean blankets, and extra layers provided in colder months. The teahouse offers a warm dining hall where trekkers gather around and share their stories. Meals like Dal Bhat to Tibetan bread, noodle soups, fried rice, potatoes, and momo are freshly cooked and served. These foods reflect both Tibetan and Tamang heritage culture.

Facilities at Lama Hotel are basic but satisfying. Bathrooms are shared, with squat or western toilets depending on the lodge. Hot showers are available for a small fee of around USD 2-3. Electricity is limited and is usually supplied by solar or small generators. Some lodges provide Wi-Fi, though the connection is slow and unreliable. Laundry is possible, but drying depends on the mountain weather. Despite these simple services, Lama Hotel has become a popular hub because of its unique location, surroundings, and views of Langtang Lirung.

A fantastic and memorable experience that I would like to repeat in the not too distant future. My friend Kulvinder and I had discussed some time ago about doing a trek in Nepal. The lure of majestic mountains, valleys, rivers, lakes, and varied scenery finally drew us, along with another friend, Binesh, to embark on the Annapurna Trek with Tilicho Lake with Himalayan Challenge Treks. From the moment we were collected at the airport by our guide Chatur Man Tarang, to the end of the trek, we were not only provided with useful advice and information, but Chatur also infused the trek with his own special brand of humour. The two porters, 'Ashish' and 'Rajan', quickly became friends and helped fill in the quiet evenings by joining in a few games of Dhumble. The treks were challenging for us, 65+ year olds. Still, Chatur and the porters were always encouraging and provided helpful advice on how to deal with the various challenges of walking up and down safely, dealing with the low oxygen air at altitude, staying safe in rockfall areas, and dealing with the incoming traffic of ponies and local residents carrying bulky goods from one place to another. The locations were absolutely stunning and the local rambling through villages, visiting the Buddhist Stupas and Gumbas and enjoying the hospitality of the tea houses along the trek routes remains truly memorable. I hope to return sometime soon to pick up where we left this trek.

Day walk with Shirish Some time ago my wife and I did a short day walk with Shirish Tuladhar of Himalayan Challenge Treks and enjoyed the day immensely. We were in Katmandu for only about a week and so had no time for a multi-day trek. Shirish was a great guide and very patient (as I was recovering from surgery and moving rather slowly.) This was pre-Covid, while we were living in Malaysia, but while moving back to the US/EU I found Shirish's card and wanted to commend him and HCT. +David+

Fantastic Tailor Made Honeymoon After establishing an excellent connection with Shirish online, we worked to put together a bespoke itinerary which was absolutely perfect for what we wanted on our honeymoon. Shirish and his team (Ram and Raju) delivered a trip which far exceeded our expectations. Their local expertise provided a personal touch to our trip which made it incredibly special and unique. I thoroughly recommend Nepal as it has so much to offer visitors. We experienced white water rafting, trekking in the Annapurna foothills, sunrises over snow topped mountains, paragliding over Pokhara, safari in Chitwan, the history and culture of Kathmandu and much, much more. The Nepalese people are incredibly friendly and welcoming. I put my trust in Shirish and his team and they delivered something professional, personal and so wonderfully memorable that the trip to Nepal will always have a very special place in our hearts.
