Namrung to Lho Distance

Namrung to Lho Distance

Ever wondered what it feels like to walk from one village to another and somehow end up feeling like you’ve climbed a small mountain anyway? That’s the Namrung to Lho stretch for you. Namrung is located at 2,630 m, while Lho is situated higher at 3,180 m, giving you a total elevation gain of 550 m. The Namrung to Lho Distance is around 9 km and takes 4–5 hours. As you move ahead, the trail opens up with pine forests, clear river sounds, and gentle climbs that don’t look scary but still take effort.

On the way, you’ll pass small villages like Banjam and Lihi and walk between long rows of mani walls. The highlight is the Lho Monastery, which welcomes you before you enter the village. You can also see the Manaslu mountain from this area, which makes you feel like you’re truly on the Manaslu Circuit Trek.

What you’ll see on the Namrug to Lho trail

On the trail, you’ll see Tibetan-style villages with prayer flags, chortens, farmland, and the Lho monastery. The first big views of Manaslu and Naike Peak (6,211 m) start to appear on this trail as well. Let’s discuss what you’ll see briefly.

Crossing the Budi Gandaki River on Suspension Bridges

Budhi Gandaki River on namrung to lho

Most of the old suspension bridge crossings over the Budhi Gandaki River come in between Namrung and Lho, as well as Jagat and Philim. These long, high bridges are a key feature of the first adventurous feel of the trek. The height and length of the bridge provide an exciting experience for many trekkers. By the time you reach Lho, the trail leaves these crossings behind and follows the upper Nubri Valley, where the focus shifts from gorges to mountain views.

The Natural Beauty and Culture of Manaslu

I loved that the Manaslu Circuit is less crowded but just as spectacular as other famous treks. The landscapes changed daily from lush forests to rocky passes and the local culture was fascinating. HC Treks took great care of everything, from permits to food and accommodation, which made the whole experience so smooth. Crossing Larke Pass was tough but the views were beyond words. Highly recommend for anyone wanting a genuine Himalayan adventure.

Lho Monastery above Lho Village

Located above Lho village, Ribung Monastery (Lho Monastery) is one of the main highlights you’ll notice between Namrung and Lho. It stands out against the snowy backdrop of Mount Manaslu, Himalchuli, and Ngadi Chuli. The monastery is also a spiritual center where monks perform daily prayers, and villagers gather for festivals like Lhosar and Dumje. With ancient scriptures and wall paintings, Ribung Gompa gives a glimpse into Tibetan Buddhist life.

Relaxing Teahouse and watching stars in the Himalayas

Tea Houses at Manaslu Region

After a day of trekking from Deng to Namrung and Namrung to Lho, the local teahouses offer a cozy retreat. Families running these teahouses welcome trekkers with meals like dal bhat, noodle soup, and Tibetan bread, while the wood-burning stove in the communal dining hall dries gear and brings everyone together. At night, stepping outside for stargazing, where you can see the Milky Way, countless stars create a magical experience far from any city lights.

Arrival at Lho, first Himalayan night at 3,180 m

  • Shift in Atmosphere: The lower-valley forests give way to high-alpine terrain, where life revolves around Buddhism, yak herding, and mountain weather.
  • Peaceful Environment: Decorated with prayer flags and chanting from Ribung Monastery, along with scattered chortens and mani walls, creates a spiritual environment.
