Deng to Namrung
The journey from Deng to Namrung may be challenging, but every step is worth the view. After completing the Jagat to Deng stretch, trekkers often feel more prepared for this rewarding section. Deng sits at an elevation of 1,860 m, while Namrung rises to 2,630 m, giving trekkers a total elevation gain of 770 m. This 13 km journey takes roughly 5-6 hrs, depending on your speed. You’ll pass Bihi Phedi, Nubri Valley, and Ghap, each offering glimpses of Tamang culture and mountains like Manaslu (8,163 m), Himalchuli (7,893 m), and Ngadi Chuli / Peak 29 (7,871 m).

Crossing the Budhi Gandaki River Bridge

The trek between Deng and Namrung involves several key crossings of the Budhi Gandaki River. This river is around 118 km long, flowing from the Manaslu Glacier before meeting the Trishuli River. The bridges over the river are common in the region: long, narrow metal structures with wooden plank bases, often adorned with colorful Buddhist prayer flags. As you walk across, you’ll hear the thunder of the river below and see crystal blue colours cutting steep rock walls.
Climb to Bihi Phedi & Ghap
After crossing the Budhi Gandaki River, the trail climbs to Bihi Phedi (2,130 m) and then continues towards Ghap (2,160 m). The name “Bihi Phedi” means “base of Bihi“, as it lies below the larger Bihi Village. It takes around 1 to 2.5 hrs to reach Bihi Phedi from Deng. The area is home to the Gurung and Tibetan communities, where mani walls and chortens mark the Buddhist culture. Continuing to Ghap takes 1.5 hrs, where the trail follows stone steps and a suspension bridge. Ghap is known for its ancient mani stones and colorful prayer wheels, believed to date back several centuries.
Capturing views of Shringi and the Kutung Himal
During the Deng to Namrung trek, trekkers can witness Shringi Himal (7,187 m) and Kutung Himal (6,064 m)-two major peaks seen on the northern skyline. Shringi Himal, also known as Chhuling Himal, rises above the Budhi Gandaki Valley and holds spiritual value for Gurung and Tibetan communities. To its east stands Kutung Himal, a lesser-known but beautiful peak that forms part of the border between the Gorkha and Tibet. The sight of Shringi and Kutung Himal together creates one of the most beautiful moments on the Manaslu Circuit Trek.
Arriving in Namrung and Experiencing Local Culture, Cafes & Mountain Views

First Glimpse of the Manaslu Region Peaks from Namrung

From Namrung, trekkers get their first clear glimpse of the Manaslu region peaks. Standing at 2,630 m, Namrung offers panoramic views of Manaslu North (7,157 m), Naike Peak (6,845 m), and Himalchuli. These peaks belong to the Mansiri Himal subrange of the Himalayas, formed millions of years ago through the uplift of the Indian and Eurasian tectonic plates. Early in the morning, the mountain glows in golden light, while in the evening, they turns pink as the sun sets. Many trekkers pause here for photos or tea breaks, to admire this beauty.
Interacting with Friendly Villagers and Sherpa Life

Namrung is not just about mountain views-it’s about meeting the people who call these hills home. The Sherpa and Gurung villagers here are known for their hospitality and friendliness. A simple greeting like “Tashi Delek” (which means “Good luck” or “Blessings” in Sherpa) brings a smile, and you can reply with the same words. Most families in Namrung live a life based on farming, yak herding, and running small teahouses for trekkers. You can interact easily by showing interest in their daily life, asking about their crops, their yaks, or how they prepare butter tea and tsampa (a roasted barley meal).
