March8°C to -12°C
April12°Cto -4°C
May14°C to 0°C

The spring season begins with March, and it is considered one of the best times for the Annapurna Base Camp Trek. It breaks the chain of cold winter temperatures and brings favorable weather with it. The snow at higher elevations also gradually begins to melt as the temperature rises. As a result, the flora and fauna are also the most active. The warm temperature also causes the entire rhododendron forest in the lower Annapurna Base Camp trail to bloom. Different shades of red, pink, and white color the entire landscape of the Annapurna region.

Views of Annapurna mountain during Spring season

As the spring season gradually progresses, the weather and climatic conditions become more stable and warmer. The sky is clear and visibility is great. Similarly, the days are bright and sunny, allowing trekkers to enjoy trekking in the beautiful scenery. There is little to no rainfall in the springtime. Therefore, there is a very low risk of landslides, storms, or other weather-related events. Due to the favorable weather and warm temperature, there are many trekkers on the trails.

MonthsTemperature
September 20°C to 0°C
October16°C to -6°C
November11°C to -10°C

The season begins after the monsoon season, so there can be slight rainfall at the beginning of September. As the season progresses, the rain stops and the weather becomes stable. The visibility is also at its best in autumn, as the rain cleanses the surroundings. Hence, the vegetation is lush, and the alpine meadows and pastures are a vibrant green, offering magnificent scenery. The days are sunny, bright, and with clear skies. The daylight is also longer, and trekkers can enjoy the journey at a slower pace.

MonthsTemperature
December 9°C to -14°C
January7°C to -19°C
February6°C to -20°C

Winter is the off-season for trekking to the Annapurna Base Camp. The weather in December starts to become colder and more unpredictable. As winter progresses, the temperature in higher-altitude areas begins to drop and falls below the freezing point. It also begins to snow, covering the entire landscape in a blanket of white. It is a magical scenery unique to the winter season. Although the temperature is cold, usually the days are warm. It is the best season to enjoy the spectacular views of the snow-capped Annapurna massif and the snowy wonderland of the Annapurna Sanctuary.

Winter trek to ABC is doable, but the snow and extreme weather at higher elevations can make it more challenging. It can be hard to navigate the snow-covered trail. Trekkers must be extra careful while navigating the trek route on the icy trail. Winter is the best time to do the Annapurna Base Camp Trek for adventurers and seasoned trekkers. The trails are quiet, and many accommodations even offer seasonal discounts. Trekkers may need snow gear while trekking in winter.

  • Many airlines and accommodations offer seasonal discounts.

“A Deep Dive Into the ABC Trek Experience”

That moment when a long-time dream is finally about to come true? That’s exactly how we felt as we set off on our 7-day trek to Annapurna Base Camp. From the moment we hit the trail, it was like stepping into a postcard. The stunning landscapes, the vibrant culture, and the thrill of the unknown had us buzzing with excitement. We laughed, we shared stories, and yes, we even struggled a bit, but every moment was worth it.

HC Treks really nailed it with the perfect mix of freedom and support. Our guides were not just experts; they were like friends who knew how to keep the vibe light and fun while ensuring we were safe and comfortable. They shared fascinating stories about the region, and their passion for the mountains was contagious. It felt like we were part of something bigger, and that connection made the trek even more special.

By the time we reached base camp, we were a tight-knit crew, bonded by the challenges we faced and the memories we created. This trip wasn’t just about reaching a destination; it was about the journey and the friendships we forged along the way. Trust me, this is the kind of adventure you’ll be reminiscing about for years to come. So, if you’re looking for an epic experience, grab your friends and get ready for the trek of a lifetime!

Annapurna Base Camp Trek in Monsoon

MonthsTemperature
June16°C to 3°C
July18°C to 6°C
August19°C to 7°C

The monsoon or summer season is the least favorable time to visit Annapurna Base Camp Trek. It brings heavy rainfall in the lower and hilly areas, causing the trails to become wet, slippery, and muddy. The water level in the rivers also increases due to the rain. Additionally, there is also the risk of landslides, mudslides, and floods. Leeches and mosquitoes also infest the hilly and forested area trails.

Weather at Annapurna region during monsoon season

The summer weather is typically hot and humid, which is not exactly comfortable for trekking. The days are also gloomy due to heavy rain clouds. Hence, the visibility is poor, and views can be obstructed. Despite the rainfall in the lower region, the trails in higher-altitude areas are dry. With proper preparation and precaution, the Annapurna Trek in the monsoon is possible. Trekkers will require proper rain gear for the venture. They can enjoy vibrant landscapes and lush vegetation scenery at this time of the year.

Pros of trekking to Annapurna Base Camp in Monsoon:

  • Trekking can enjoy beautiful landscapes and lush vegetation scenery.
  • The trails are quiet and less crowded, perfect for serene trekking.
  • Many airlines and accommodations offer off-season deals and discounts.
  • The teahouses and lodges are less crowded, so the service is better and you have better options.

Cons of trekking to Annapurna Base Camp in Monsoon:

  • Trekkers have to hike on wet, muddy, and slippery trails.
  • The weather is hot and humid, so trekkers can get dehydrated quickly.
  • Leeches and mosquitoes infest the trails.
  • The visibility is poor, and heavy, dark clouds obstruct views. Flights can also be delayed or postponed.
  • There is a risk of landslides and floods.

A fantastic and memorable experience that I would like to repeat in the not too distant future. My friend Kulvinder and I had discussed some time ago about doing a trek in Nepal. The lure of majestic mountains, valleys, rivers, lakes, and varied scenery finally drew us, along with another friend, Binesh, to embark on the Annapurna Trek with Tilicho Lake with Himalayan Challenge Treks. From the moment we were collected at the airport by our guide Chatur Man Tarang, to the end of the trek, we were not only provided with useful advice and information, but Chatur also infused the trek with his own special brand of humour. The two porters, 'Ashish' and 'Rajan', quickly became friends and helped fill in the quiet evenings by joining in a few games of Dhumble. The treks were challenging for us, 65+ year olds. Still, Chatur and the porters were always encouraging and provided helpful advice on how to deal with the various challenges of walking up and down safely, dealing with the low oxygen air at altitude, staying safe in rockfall areas, and dealing with the incoming traffic of ponies and local residents carrying bulky goods from one place to another. The locations were absolutely stunning and the local rambling through villages, visiting the Buddhist Stupas and Gumbas and enjoying the hospitality of the tea houses along the trek routes remains truly memorable. I hope to return sometime soon to pick up where we left this trek.

Day walk with Shirish Some time ago my wife and I did a short day walk with Shirish Tuladhar of Himalayan Challenge Treks and enjoyed the day immensely. We were in Katmandu for only about a week and so had no time for a multi-day trek. Shirish was a great guide and very patient (as I was recovering from surgery and moving rather slowly.) This was pre-Covid, while we were living in Malaysia, but while moving back to the US/EU I found Shirish's card and wanted to commend him and HCT. +David+

Fantastic Tailor Made Honeymoon After establishing an excellent connection with Shirish online, we worked to put together a bespoke itinerary which was absolutely perfect for what we wanted on our honeymoon. Shirish and his team (Ram and Raju) delivered a trip which far exceeded our expectations. Their local expertise provided a personal touch to our trip which made it incredibly special and unique. I thoroughly recommend Nepal as it has so much to offer visitors. We experienced white water rafting, trekking in the Annapurna foothills, sunrises over snow topped mountains, paragliding over Pokhara, safari in Chitwan, the history and culture of Kathmandu and much, much more. The Nepalese people are incredibly friendly and welcoming. I put my trust in Shirish and his team and they delivered something professional, personal and so wonderfully memorable that the trip to Nepal will always have a very special place in our hearts.
