Affordable Journey by Local Bus

Traveling by local is by far the cheapest mode of transport available, with bus tickets costing around NPR 700–1200 (approx. USD 6–9) per person. It is less than a private vehicle or a tourist bus and is ideal for budget-conscious travelers and backpackers. You’ll be sharing the journey with local people, where you’ll witness the hustle and bustle of Nepalese life. The journey is typically longer than by private vehicle (around 7-8 hrs) because buses stop frequently to pick up and drop off passengers, which adds time to the overall trip.

Safe and Relaxed Travel by Tourist Bus

Tourist buses are generally more comfortable than local buses. They have better seats, are often air-conditioned (AC), and provide a dedicated luggage area. Some premium services even offer bottles water, a packed lunch, or Wi-Fi. While still on a fixed schedule, the tourist bus has fewer stops than local buses but a slightly higher cost. Most tourist buses stop at Gongabu Bus Park in Kathmandu, which provides easy access to hotels, restaurants, and onward transportation.

Scenic Highlights of Besisahar to Kathmandu Journey

The journey from Besisahar to Kathmandu, whether by road or via Pokhara and flight, offers a variety of scenic highlights. As you travel through the Lamjung district, you’ll see the Marsyangdi River Valley, Trishuli River Valley, terraced farmlands, and Himalayan peaks. Let’s discuss thoroughly.

Remote Villages of Marshyangdi Valley

The initial drive of your journey takes you through the Marshyangdi River Valley. The Valley showcases traditional Nepali hill architecture. Homes are often built with local stone, mud mortar, and slate or tin roofs. As you pass the valley, you’ll get a glimpse of daily life. You might see locals working in the fields, children going to school, and women doing laundry by the riverside. These activities make the village feel more remote and natural.

Ganesh and Lamjung Himal Views

As you depart the Besisahar area and head towards the main highway, you are in the vicinity of the Annapurna range. On a clear day, you can see Lamjung Himal before you descend fully into the lower river valleys. As you travel along the Prithvi Highway, heading east towards Kathmandu, views of the Ganesh Himal become more likely. The range is visible to the north (left side of the vehicle). Views may be intermittent as the road ducks in and out of the valleys, but catching a clear sight of these peaks is a memorable experience of the journey.

Explore Villages of Galchi and Dharke

Galchi and Dharke are busy junctions located closer to the Kathmandu Valley on the Prithvi Highway. You can observe an active atmosphere with local markets, numerous tea shops, bus stops, and businesses catering to both locals and travelers on the highway. These areas are closer to the Trishuli River, which is popular for whitewater rafting. Sometimes, you can even spot rafters on the water from the roadside.

I’d done a couple of treks in Nepal before, but Manaslu? This one hits differently, it’s wilder, less crowded, and feels like you’re walking through a forgotten world. Every day brought something unexpected swinging bridges, Buddhist monasteries, yak herds, and those towering snowy peaks. The HC Treks team was brilliant, so organized yet super chill. I was solo, but never felt alone. Honestly, it’s a trek that stays with you.
